Community Gardens

The City of Wetaskiwin recognizes that community gardens are an important component is creating a healthy, sustainable city, and has installed two community gardens this year (2019) as part of a pilot project to determine the level of local interest.

Locations of Plots

Community gardens have been installed at the following locations:

  • 47 Street & 56 Avenue (southwest corner)
  • Broere Park (south of 39 Avenue & east of 55 Street)

Each community garden features 10 plots that are 10 feet wide by 30 feet long. These plots are available to rent each growing season for a fee of $50 ($30 of which will be refunded at the end of the season if the plot user follows the project's terms of reference).
There is a limit of two plots per person, per season.

How to Apply

Please contact the Public Works office at 780.361.4436 to sign up for a community garden plot.

Additional Information

Responsibilities of Plot Holders
  • Plot holders must pay a $50 deposit before planting (payments can be made at the public works office)
  • All plots must be kept weed-free, and must not encroach on the neighbouring plot.
  • Any plot that fall under disrepair or are abandoned will be tilled after contact is attempted with the plot holder and the deposit will be forfeited.
  • All plots must be harvested and cleaned up no later than the end of September (any plots not cleaned up shall also forfeit the deposited amount).
  • All users must agree to only use organic products for fertilizer and pest control.
Responsibilities of the City of Wetaskiwin
  • All plots will be ready for planting by the Friday before May long weekend.
  • The City shall do all preseason tilling and will mark out all the plots prior to planting season.
  • The City of Wetaskiwin will provide water to both garden locations.
  • The City of Wetaskiwin is not responsible for any loss or damages.
