Community Gardens

Community gardens are an important component in creating a healthy, sustainable city, and the City of Wetaskiwin is planning on expanding this program by digging new plots across the City. 

How to Apply

These plots are available to rent each growing season for a fee of $50 ($30 of which will be refunded at the end of the season if the plot user follows the project’s terms of reference). if you are interested in a community garden plot this year, call 780.361.4436 or email at your earliest convenience and provide the following information:

  • your name
  • phone number
  • home address with postal code.

Garden plots will be assigned as close to your residence as possible to help promote physical distancing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Plots will be ready for planting by May 15, 2020.

Responsibilities of Plot Holders
  • An agreement must be signed prior to deposit payment.
  • Plot holders must pay a $50 deposit before planting                    Payments can be made by cheque (mail or drop off in the mail box on NW side of City Hall); or by credit card with signed pre-authorization form (email to request the form)
  • All plots must be kept weed-free, and must not encroach on the neighbouring plot.
  • Any plots that fall under disrepair or are abandoned will be tilled after contact is attempted with the plot holder, and the deposit will be forfeited.
  • All plots must be harvested and cleaned up no later than the end of September (any plots not cleaned up shall also forfeit the deposited amount).
  • All users must agree to only use organic products for fertilizer and pest control.
Responsibilities of the City of Wetaskiwin
  • All plots will be ready for planting by the Friday before May long weekend.
  • The City shall do all pre-season tilling and will mark out all the plots prior to planting season.
  • The City of Wetaskiwin will provide water to both garden locations.
  • The City of Wetaskiwin is not responsible for any loss or damages.
